These are the terms you agree to by using Voci. They are written to be read, not to be impressive.
Voci is a language-learning service. You point it at a film, and it measures how much of that film's dialogue you already know, teaches the words you are missing on a spaced-repetition schedule, scores your pronunciation sound by sound, and estimates a date by which you should be able to follow the film without subtitles.
By creating an account you agree to these terms and to the Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the service.

Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each period at the same price, until cancelled. A 7-day free trial is available on paid plans where offered; if you do not cancel before it ends, the first period is charged.
Prices are in US dollars and are shown before you pay. Taxes are added where required and are calculated by the payment provider. If a price changes, existing subscribers are told before it applies to them and can cancel first.
Cancel any time. You keep access until the end of the period you have already paid for — cancelling does not cut you off immediately, because you paid for that time.
Refunds are covered by the Refund Policy.
Web payments are processed by Paddle.com Market Ltd, which is the merchant of record — Paddle, not Voci, is the seller on your statement and your invoice, and Paddle handles tax. Purchases in the iOS app are processed by Apple under Apple's own terms. Voci never receives or stores your card details.
Voci does not host, stream, or distribute films. It reads dialogue text to build a vocabulary list. You supply the film; Voci supplies the teaching.
When you add your own film by uploading a subtitle file, you confirm that you have the right to use that file and that you have lawful access to the film itself. You must not upload material you have no right to.
The starter films included with Voci are works in the public domain, or works whose subtitles are used under the terms of the source that provides them. Film titles, cover art and metadata belong to their respective rights holders and are used for identification.

If you hold rights in material you believe is being used improperly on Voci, send the agent a written notice including all of the following:
Valid notices are acted on promptly, and you will get a reply either way. An incomplete notice may delay us, so we will tell you what is missing rather than ignore it.
We will tell you what was removed and why. If you believe the removal was a mistake or a misidentification, you may send a counter-notice to dmca@voci.ca containing: identification of the material and where it was; a statement under penalty of perjury that you believe in good faith it was removed as a result of mistake or misidentification; your name, address and telephone number; your consent to the jurisdiction of the courts where you live; and your signature. We may restore the material after forwarding your counter-notice to the complainant, unless they begin legal proceedings.
Voci is operated from Canada. Where Canada's notice-and-notice regime applies, we will forward a compliant notice to the account concerned rather than disclose their identity to you.
Accounts that repeatedly upload infringing material are terminated.

Accounts that breach this may be suspended or terminated. Where the breach was not deliberate you will be contacted first.
Your recordings, your uploaded subtitle files and your learning history remain yours. You grant Voci only the licence needed to run the service for you: to store them, process them, and send them to the processors listed in the Privacy Policy. Voci does not use your recordings to train models, and does not claim ownership of anything you produce.
Voci is provided as it is. In particular:
To the extent the law allows, Voci's total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid in the twelve months before the claim. Voci is not liable for indirect or consequential loss.
Nothing here excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded — including, for consumers, your statutory rights. If you are a consumer in the EU, UK or Canada, those rights stand regardless of anything in this document.
You can delete your account at any time. Voci may suspend or close an account for breach of these terms, or discontinue the service — in which case any unused prepaid time is refunded pro rata.
Material changes are announced by email to account holders and the date at the top is updated. If you keep using Voci after a change takes effect, you accept it. If you do not, cancel and ask for a pro-rata refund of unused time.
These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the applicable laws of Canada. Consumers keep the right to bring proceedings in their own country of residence where local law provides it.
